San Juan Lookout in Laveen

The highest point of the South Mountains, known as San Juan Lookout, may be found at the most westerly point. You can get there by driving your own vehicle or by walking along the National Trail for a distance of about two miles.

The trail becomes more congested as it approaches the western terminus, and then it descends into a valley that gradually widens until emerging at the end of its length along the mountains at a viewpoint that is relatively remote for Phoenix. As a result of its larger degree of seclusion, that part of the city as well as the mountains is considered to be more rural.

Additionally, in contrast to other lookouts, this one has a lower volume of visitors because it does not emphasize the higher elevations. It makes for a straightforward and pleasurable hike, perfect for spending the morning or afternoon taking in the sights along the way to your destination.
