Why Did We Start Phoenix Home Remodeling®?
Jeremy and his family went through terrible contractor nightmares and it motivated him to partner with 2 brothers Ben & Mark to start Phoenix Home Remodeling®.
Together, they structured PHR around three distinct areas of expertise: construction, operations, and systems, so no single part of the business would ever be an afterthought.
About the Founders
Jeremy Maher: Co-Founder, Systems & Marketing
Jeremy co-founded Phoenix Home Remodeling® after his family's firsthand experience with a contractor who blew the budget, missed deadlines, and delivered results that looked nothing like what was promised. That experience didn't just motivate him, it became the blueprint for building a company that operates the opposite way.
With 20+ years in business operations, technology, and marketing, Jeremy designed the systems and processes that make PHR's design-build model repeatable and scalable. He built the client portal infrastructure, the internal estimating workflow, and the marketing strategy that has established PHR as one of the most recognized remodeling brands in the Phoenix metro.
He is the author of Remodel Without Regret, a guide for homeowners on how to vet, hire, and manage a remodeling contractor without getting burned. His commentary on the remodeling industry has appeared in Better Homes & Gardens, Real Simple, AZ Central, Upscale Living Magazine, and others.
Mark Chesley: Co-Founder, Construction & Operations
Mark brings 20+ years of hands-on construction experience to every project PHR takes on. He oversees the construction phase of each remodel, from trade coordination to quality control, and works directly with the design team to ensure what gets built matches what was planned.
His construction background spans over all interior remodels, and he has managed thousands of remodeling projects. Mark's involvement doesn't end at the jobsite, he also participates in design and more.
That level of owner involvement is unusual in this industry, and it's one of the primary reasons PHR's pricing doesn't shift after the project starts.
Ben Chesley: Co-Founder, Finance & Business Operations
Ben manages the financial and operational side of the business, including employee oversight, vendor relationships, and the internal systems that keep projects on budget. With 15+ years of business operations experience, he is the person responsible for making sure PHR's fixed-price model is actually viable, not just a marketing claim.
Before construction pricing is delivered to a homeowner, Ben and Mark review the full scope and estimate together. PHR is one of the few remodeling companies in Arizona where two owners are directly involved in pricing verification before the final proposal goes out. We DO NOT Underbid Like Some Phoenix Contractors
We have 2 estimators that get involved BEFORE you get the proposal. This is not the case for any other contractors we know of not only in Phoenix but in the nation. We are part of several online contractor communities and they all think this is a waste of time and money.
We feel obligated to do this so we know the price we are providing is right.
This way you know that the price is legitimate and is not a bait & switch situation which is unfortunately common in this industry.
You could be an attorney and yell at or threaten the contractor all you want, but if you don’t pay them the extra amount you are often in breach of contract and they can walk off your job or put a lien on your house.
We do the design-build business model where you pay us for the feasibility, planning, & design package first. Once everything has been planned out and all design items have been chosen, we can provide the actual price so you don’t have a bad surprise later on.

Why is the Design-Build model so important?
The design-build model is one team completing the project from start to finish. That means we design it in-house and do the remodel ourselves. It limits errors, miscommunications, and speeds up the construction phase. This way we are in your house for less time! It also entails a project manager updating you through the remodeling so you can know exactly what’s going on.
What if I’m unsure about what I want my remodel to look like?
It is common for homeowner to either, unsure, have a few ideas, or know almost exactly what they want. It is okay no matter what because our designer will help you with the design aspects like what style you prefer, helping pick out all design selection items, and providing renderings from different angles so it turns out exactly how you want it.
What if I don’t like the final remodel?
That isn't possible because of our unique design-build business model. You are collaborating together with the designer as you plan and pick out everything. This isn't like HGTV where they surprise you at the end and you are stuck with it. We provide 3D renderings at certain stages so you know what it will look like before we start any construction. You’ll know exactly what you’re getting so you can decide beforehand whether you want to start the renovation.
How can I be sure the remodel will be done on time?
One of the benefits of our design-build business model is the fact that we don't start the demo or construction until all of the important items have arrived. This drastically reduces the total time from demo to completion. We also utilize project management software that helps ensure things don't slip through the cracks unlike many contractors that wing it or handwrite a few things. We also have a homeowner portal where you will see update photos to see the progress of your renovation every day. It can be accessed with an easy mobile application or from any computer.
